Dick Bayne and Laura Whinney met in Italy in 1995 while both living and working in Tuscany, and married 4 years later. In 2002, they walked the entire length of Italy: a 1500 mile journey from the tip of Calabria to the French border. En route they passed through the Majella National Park and fell in love with the wildness and beauty of the landscape. The following year they returned to the area and found 31 Decontra. They have since worked hard to renovate the cottage and gardens simply and sensitively, to a high standard. The Bed & Breakfast is run by Albina Fabiani, who also works for Upland Escapes, a tour operating company founded by Dick and Laura, offering walking holidays throughout Europe, including in the Majella. Albina is a welcoming host, a great cook and an enthusiastic walker.
