31 Decontra’s gardens are set on a gentle incline and offer wonderful views of Monte Amaro, Monte Morrone and the Orfento Gorge. The lower part of the gardens includes areas of lawn and natural meadow, and a pair of attractive stone terraces with shady pergolas: perfect for lunching al fresco or enjoying an evening drink and admiring the beautiful views. The cottage itself appears to rise directly from the natural bedrock, which is speckled with alpines and rock roses. Close to the house, two tiny walled gardens are planted with roses, lavender and herbs, and provide shaded seating and peaceful corners. There is also a soothing fountain – the water gathering in a great trough hewn from a single piece of rock. Beyond the house, a grassy slope leads up to a rustic swing-seat from which the whole garden can be admired, and beyond, a fenced area planted with aromatic bay hedging encloses a natural rock plunge pool. Relax on the sun-warmed rock with your feet in the water or stretch out on a lounger to sunbathe, lulled by the trickle of water, the rasp of crickets and the sound of birdsong.

 

Upland Escapes’ guests are also welcome to enjoy the gardens of 31 Decontra, so very occasionally you may find yourself sharing the gardens with one or two others. If this is likely to be the case during the dates of your stay with us, we will let you know.
